No Silver Bullets.
There, I’ve said it - there’s no Silver Bullets, no panaceas, no magic that is going to shortcut our way to wherever it is we want to go.
The simple fact is, the road to getting where you want to go requires some very simple things, done in a very consistent manner and the absence of consistency is what weeds the people who get there in the end and the ones who dont.
Want to lose weight - focus on calories in vs energy expenditure out. Sprinkle in some good sleep discipline and daily water intake and chances are you’ll get there (over time).
Want to build a business? Solve a problem for your local community (for e.g. a coffee shop), your wider community (for e.g. grow food or transport it) or your online community (e.g. provide education / entertainment) and with enough time, consistency and effort you can probably make it something pretty successful.
Sure there are numerous checkpoints along the way, however there is no greater panacea than action towards the direction you want to go.
It’s then important to recognise when going in that direction is no longer helpful for the life you want to live.
Life gets pretty interesting when you don’t have the time / energy to complete these actions… You’re probably thinking what excuses am I making now that’s preventing these actions?
I’m not making an excuse, all I’m going to comment is that the end point needs to be worth the effort you put into it. Because as I began this thought - there is no silver bullet, no panacea - to get where you want to go is going to take ‘work’.
I started thinking about the irony of building up a profile on ‘social media’ when to do so would require a significant amount of work that would probably actually detract from doing the things that I much rather enjoy - like my family, training, the podcast or the fight studies)
And to be fair, I actually have some secret accounts I’ve build up to some pretty big followings that nobody would expect me to have.
It started more as a bit of fun and I wanted to prove to myself it could be done (Shoutout to my friend Charlie who got me into it having seen the success he had in doing the same thing).
There are some basic pillars that I think led to the growth of these accounts, however there was definitely no ‘silver bullet’ or ‘panacea’ in our approach.
Everything has a cost - and the cost of ‘social media’ is generally not being very social while you put your content together to upload.
It’s part of the reason that despite the decent sized followings I’ve parked those accounts whilst I focus more on living life in reality and less of it on my phone.
I guess this musing kind of took a bit of a turn, however whatever it is you’re working on - I hope the juice is worth the squeeze.
If you’re still doing things out of habit when it may no longer be taking you the direction you want to go, perhaps it’s time to take a moment and pivot to face the direction you want.
At the end of the day if we continue to act with discipline towards the direction we want to go, we will get there eventually. It’s only a matter of when, not if.
Enjoy!
